"w00t" Wins Word of the Year Honors

The wordsmiths over at Merriam-Websiter have named “w00t” the word of the year. For those of you who don’t know it’s an exclamation used in gaming mostly to denote happiness or celebration…at least that’s how I use it…

Did I mention I’m a gamer?

w00t!!! gamerz are teh roxzors!!!

That’s my level 50 empathy defender named Blue Jaye.

No seriously, it really is. I play an mmo called City of Heroes. It’s comic book, super-hero fun. I get to pretend I can fly and have super powers. It’s kind of silly, but it’s how I unwind. My wife doesn’t understand, but in a similar way I don’t understand her love for chick flicks…but she still loves em!

Anyhoo.

Question: What do YOU do to unwind?

True Story Friday

Ok, so I thought I’d share a slightly humorous story that was conveyed to me yesterday.

One of our worship team members was on the way home from a very popular fast food restaurant. On the way home she needed to stop by the CPA’s office quickly to drop off some papers, so when she pulled in there, she noticed what appeared to be a homeless woman rummaging through a dumpster behind the office. That area downtown is where homeless people congregate frequently. She might have been looking for food, she might have been looking for treasure, who knows.

Anyways, feeling the prompting of the Spirit to stop and share God’s love with this woman, my friend decided to go for it. She hadn’t yet touched the combo meal she had purchased just minutes before, and felt that she could offer it to the woman if she wanted it.

My friend went over to her and asked her if she was hungry and if she needed something to eat. The woman responded that she was very hungry and thanked my friend for asking.

My friend was stoked at the response, feeling as though she had truly followed the leading of the Lord in this particular situation, so she offered her the untouched fast food meal.

To which the woman promptly replied, “Oh I can’t eat that, I’m a vegetarian.”

Feed Reader Goodies

So today is my “need for feed” day here and I thought I’d point you to some of the goodies in my feed reader.

1) A little blog/link pimpage from the Original Mud Puppy (right back at ya).
2) Some original worship from Klampert at CECWorship.
3) Funny post on Recruiting vocalists from worshiptrench over on The Worship Community Forums.

That’s about it for today! Happy feed-ing.

Kitchen Confessional [12-5-07]

Alright, I went off on some food last night. It was awesome. For about an hour I was the culinary champion of my kitchen.

The feastmaster, if you will.

Armed with a recipe I found online and an indomitable will to perfect it at all costs, I summoned all the culinary courage I could muster and battled my way to an epic feast of Pasta with Alfredo Sauce.

Oh, small a task as it might seem to the untrained warrior, it was no little feat. Here’s how it went down…

In my leather pouch of ingredients, I found myself with:

1 stick of butter (unsalted)
1 cup of shredded parmesan and romano cheese (both in one pack)
Some milk, alas, I know not the quantity, but it was probably somewhere around a cup
1 heaping tablespoon of cream cheese
A dash of garlic powder
A dash of oregano
A dash of salt
A dash of black pepper
A dash of italian seasoning (which was probably redundant, but it was fun dashing)

Pasta (’twas a wide egg noodle variety)
Broccoli
Olive Oil

1) Prepare noodles normally (I used half a large bag)

2) Over low heat melt butter. Add cheese, milk, cream cheese, stirring occasionally You can add a little more milk depending on the consistency you like. More cream cheese makes it a bit creamier. You might even dare to substitute heavy cream for milk for a very creamy sauce.

3) Season sauce with all your dashes.

4) In a pan, sautee broccoli in olive oil. Just enough to get them a bit softer. (Plus, olive oil is delicious!) You might also cook up some chicken to your liking if you so choose, but for this battle I had none at my disposal, so it was broccoli that I conjured up to win this conflict.

5) Drain noodles. Toss noodles in sauce (leaving just a little to top off each serving).

6) Add Broccoli. Top with excess sauce. Sprinkle a dash of parmesan/romano cheese over the serving.

Enjoy. Depending on how thick your sauce is, you might be able to stretch this out into 4 servings. My lovely wife and I chose to eat a “serving” as our entire meal, so each serving was a nice sized-bowl size….leaving about one serving for leftovers.

Also, the recipe I found was a little skimpier on some of the ingredients, so it looked to be a bit of a bland recipe, so I added the cream cheese and a few spices to give it a little more flavor.

Was it a success? Ask my wife. She loves Alfredo and she said it was the best she’d ever had. Need I say more?

There ya have it…How I conquered the kitchen yet once more!
