New Blog, Twitter, Community

New Blog

As most of you can tell, I’m working on this new blog set up. I’m getting my feet “re-wet” with WordPress again. Haven’t used it in several years (personally). I’ve really missed it.

With a new job and putting my wife through grad school funds have been a little limited in the “personal web site” department so I just hopped on blogger.

Twitter

Anyways, I’ve been using twitter for months now. It’s funny how that works. I’ll come across a cool little tech/web gadget/widget of some sort and try and use it and nobody’s really on board, and then some crazy bald worship leader from Buckhead suggests it and the it blows up. Props to Los.

But now that my twitter friends have literally exploded all around me it’s been a great tool to network. I’m connected with a lot of great designers and artists over in the Church Marketing Sucks Lab (flickr.com) and we shoot links to current projects for critique and help. It works. It really works.

Some of my twitter friends: @fmckinnon, @chadmaag, @courtenay, @chris_baker, @bgsand. Head on over to twitter and join the fun if you haven’t already. I’m at twitter.com/russhutto

The Worship Community

I’m also a big fan of The Worship Community Forums. If you’re a worship leader, sound technician, lighting technician, audio/video technician, musician, pastor, worshiper, etc., this is a great place to network and build online community.

I’ve been thrilled to see the discussions/questions/tips/advice going on over there. In fact, I had a question about setting up a “live feed” for an over flow room with the potential of having live musicians play along with the feed – and I got a ton of helpful info in a few short hours.

What do YOU do for community/networking?

Welcome To My New Blog Home

Hey.

New blog home. The ordinary-radical blog over at Blogger just wasn’t cutting it for me.

Please add me to your blog roll! (russhutto.com)

I’ll be renovating this place in the next few days. Adding some curtains and shag carpet, you know, the works.

Thanks for stopping by.

WordPress vs. Blogger: Round 1

I need some god input from YOU, my few loyal readers.

I’ve not been thrilled with blogger. I used to run several blogs on the WordPress platform. I’m really considering letting this one go and hopping back over to WP.

I’d probably grab a domain name, some hosting, and do everything myself, as opposed to doing the xxxxxxx.wordpress.com, but either way I’m really missing the whole WP dashboard.

Your thoughts?

Southern Speak: My Take

I’ve been cracking up as these two vids have made their way around my blog circle. Most of you have probably already seen them, but if not, check em out.

Mandy’s “You All Ain’t Right” Lesson

Tam’s Response

Here’s a few tips and tricks for nailing the southern accent.

1) Never say SODA or POP. You may be able to get away with SOFT DRINK, but down here in the south we call ‘em COKES. Why? Who knows.

2) In the south, “You Guys” might be offensive to some girls, who think you just called em a dude. When I first moved back to GA, after living in FL for a few years, I said something to the effect of “Hey, guys” to a group of guys AND girls, and the girls got madder than a hornet.

3) You all = ya’ll.

4) Shorten up sentences and phrases when possible by dropping hard consonant sounds at the end of words, or by dropping “th” sounds at the beginning of words like “them”…example: Ya’ll goin’ to be meetin’ ‘em at the store later?

Happy redneckin’ Ya’ll.

Weekend Wrap Up

Friday: Got my hands on a new smart phone. I’ve been wanting one for a real long time. I’ve got an old PDA that I really used a lot back in the day, and so I’ve been itching to get an iPhone or something similar in a phone model.

I decided to pass on the iPhone (even though I really want one), because I just bought a Nano for christmas, so I needed more of a work/office phone. I got the HTC Touch PPC6800. I’m enjoying learning about all the new features available, and excited about integrating it into my scheduling and planning for the church.

Saturday: My wife and I ran our very first 5K in Jesup, GA. It was a blast. Very hard, but fun. We hadn’t really trained much, so we had to alternate between running and walking. But we crossed the finish line together, had a good time enjoying the beautiful weather, and accomplished a goal we had set together. We finished in 41:51. I got second in my age group. She got third in hers. Don’t tell anyone, but there were only 2 in my age group!

Anyways, we knew going in that we’d be near the back of the pack, but we decided to use this first race as a low bar. We’re going to be running another one in May. We’ve decided to integrate 5ks into our life every other month or so.

Sunday: Services went well. I was on drums. Guitar player’s amp died during last song so that was fun. All in all we executed nicely, except for some minor vocal harmonies that weren’t 100%, but I’m really proud of my vocalists. They’ve been working hard to get their parts each week.

How was your weekend?
