Sunday Setlist: VHS Baccalaureate Service [05.09.10]

Today I had the opportunity (for the second year in a row) to play at the Valdosta High School Baccalaureate service. It was indeed an honor to participate in this inspiration service for the Class of 2010.

I was doubly honored and privileged to have some good friends (from all over South Georgia) join me to form a great team. Big thanks to Jason Crowe (on drums – Jesup), Jimmy Linville (on bass – Valdosta), Hamp Rogers (on guitar – Valdosta), Cortni Joseph (on vocals – Valdosta), Rosalind Moore (on vocals – Valdosta) and Danita Campbell (on vocals – Valdosta). I played keys and acoustic guitar (I’m from Brunswick!).

We had planned to do 5 songs, but added a new one in and cut 2 out due to lack of time, so our end set looked like this:

1) Shackles (Mary Mary): Key Em. This one is always a fun song to rock out. Our tried and true Maroon 5 meets Kirk Franklin version never lets us down! The girls rocked it.

2) Revelation Song (Riddle): Key C. Definitely not your worship leader’s version. This one rocks pretty hard. I actually led out vocally on this one, and it would have been nice to take it up a step or two…but the girls came in on the chorus and pretty much carried from then til the end while I took everything up an octave and had fun “soaring” on this one.

3) Blessed Be Your Name (Redman): Key G. Another steadfast tune that works really well for us.

4) One Way (Crazy Train Remix): Key F#m. This one is always fun. Wish we’d had one more electric guitar but I tried to fill in the blanks a little with my acoustic. Not quite the same but still a rockin’ tune.

We cut: With Long Life (Houghton – Cm) and Your Love is Beautiful (Hillsong – Cm) both great tunes that I wish we could have done.

Fitness Friday: Turning Off The Lights to Relax

IMG_4446

So today’s Fitness Friday post has more to do with wellness than actual fitness, but in the end I need to be “well” to be able to pursue fitness so it all works out!

I’m one of those people who takes a while to to sleep. I’ll lay in bed for hours sometimes just thinking about stuff. Any stuff. Not just stressful stuff. My brain just keeps on whirring and I can’t slow it down. Call me a thinker. Call me a worrier even.

Problem is, I’ll wake up the next morning NOT REFRESHED. I feel groggy and I hate waking up (getting out of bed and getting going). The problem with that is if I roll over and go back to sleep I only compound matters. I sleep TOO much and it keeps me awake the following night.

The Bold & Revolutionary Young Teenie Floozie Pop Star is Actually Tired & Predictable

Don’t get me wrong, I love me a great pop song. I mean who doesn’t, right?

Just kidding, I don’t listen to much top 40 radio. I don’t listen to much CCM. I’ve never really been one to listen to what the masses do. Well, not much anyways.

Sunday Setlist [05.02.10]

Screen shot 2010-05-02 at 5.02.15 PM

Great day today at SSCC! I played acoustic guitar and sang.

This weekend I got to lead (along with my brother, Jon) a 2 hour slot at a 24-hour prayer and worship gathering. Our time slot was from 1 am – 3 am. Early birds! It was a great time. I used my MacBookPro (GarageBand) and made some loops and chord progressions and we just let them long play. It was cool!

1) Say So (Houghton): Key D. Great tune. We used this as our walk-in. I got to lead out on this one! Good times. This was the second time we’ve done this. It sets the room up with lots of energy.

2) Everlasting God (Brown): Key A. Good solid standard arrangement.

3) Rain Down (Crowder): Key Em. Crowder arrangement as our basis. This is the first time I’ve played or sang this tube. It’s a great song!

4) Consuming Fire (Hughes): Key G/Em. I led out on this one a little bit. Great song.

5) Doxology: Key G. Old standard with a driving acoustic rhythm. Nice way to end worship music set.

6) Center (Hall): Key D. Closing song. One of our high school girls, Katie, led out on this one. It was sweet!

Pastor David brought a great message on relationships. We’re in a series called Worth Fighting For. It’s about all the aspects of relationships that we should fight to make better! Great Series.

Are We Creating A Generation of Jerks?

On the Wall Street Journal Site there is an article that places the blame for narcissistic, self-absorbed, entitled children (even college students) on Mr. Rogers.

You know, the sweater wearing nice guy who talked to puppets and told us all how special we are.
