God is Taking Me Back To The Future
I heard a preacher this weekend use the phrase “God wants to take us back to the future.” And it resonated with me so much!
It isn’t a new idea for me as God has really been stirring my heart to dig deep into the what of what I am living for here on earth.
As Believers we need to let God take us back to the future. We live for something bigger than us. We live for a coming Kingdom, a returning King. The early Church lived eagerly awaiting His returning. For some reason, I don’t get the feeling that many in our modern churches are living for His return. It even seems like many people aren’t even aware of what the “future” of our faith looks like.
Sure, God’s Kingdom is here among us and we are to pray daily to let His Kingdom come and His will be done. But the truth is if all we’re living for is the now, the moment, we’ll miss out on many opportunities to BE who He has called us to be…a people who live eagerly awaiting His return. A people that represent Christ here on earth.
We know the end, yet we live like it won’t happen! The future is not some far off place, though. It’s not a distant by and by that someday we’ll get to but for now we have to just barely make it by here on earth. As the Cable Guy, Chip Douglas (Jim Carrey) says, “The future is now!”
God has placed eternity into our hearts. Let’s not ignore it! Lord help us to live for more than the moment, but to live each moment as if it were our last, expecting Christ’s return!
Scripture encourages us to set our minds on heavenly things (Colossians 3:2). I have heard people try and counter that by saying, “Don’t be so heavenly minded your no earthly good.” While I think that’s a nice, safe saying, I would rather be SO HEAVENLY MINDED THAT ALL I CAN BE IS EARTHLY GOOD!
I say, “have your heart and mind so focused on living for HIS RETURNING that you can’t help but influence and impact those around you for the Kingdom!
I think that the fact that the closing concept in Scripture is a prayer for Jesus’ return speaks volumes! Revelation 22:20 says:
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!

The Cable Guy reference turned that easy 15 foot jumper into a three-point-shot. Well played.
Haha, Bill! I love obscure movie quotes. A lot of times people don’t get them! Haha!
