Lord of My Refuge (Psalm 31)
So here’s my contribution to the Worship Community’s February Songwriting assignment (Psalm 31). If you’re a writer there’s plenty of time to get in on the action!
The intro stinks. No excuses. i just stunk it up.
The lyrics and melody are what I’d like you to focus on. NOT the production or instrumentation! I had some fun with this one. Added in some mandolin and even some autotune on the voice…Yeah I know. But I like doing things to rock the boat a little…so I had to use autotune because it’s the last thing anybody would want combined with an acoustic guitar and mandolin driven song.
Anyways, I chose to use the verses to focus on the negative aspects of the Psalm. The prechorus moves into the “prayer” to God aspect of the song. And the chorus (hopefully) is the payoff. Where the negative tension and prayer are resolved.
Thoughts?

Kinda reminds me of Aaron Sprinkle, minus the autotune, of course. Good first take, methinks.
Nice. I’ll take that as a compliment! I need to get a little more serious sometimes when I record first runs, but I have fun doing it so wheeeeeee!
My feedback as a non-singer, non-musician:
I like the melody and could pick it up easily. Love the lyric. I could grasp the song easily during the worship section of a service, and that allows me to join in. I like to join in when the worship leader makes it easy for me to do so.
High marks all the way around.
Thanks, Bill. My favorite feedback is always from the “nons”
Any musician/singer could rip apart my stuff but what really matters to me is what people I’m writing for think! So it means a great deal when I get good feedback like you’ve given!
I’m a “non” so I’ll add my two cents….
WOW. It’s already stuck in my head! By the middle of it I was totally grooving to it and singing along with the chorus and didn’t realize it…. I totally echo Bill’s statement as well. ;-)
P.S. Never ventured over here before, quite liking it!
Thanks, Brandy! And thanks for stopping by!
