50 Songs: To The Sky (Night Owl Mix)
This is a remix of a song I wrote back in 03 or 04 (somewhere in there). I’ve not had a lot of time to devote to my writing the last month, with all the busy-ness going on. I was about to go to bed tonight and decided (at the very least) that I could remix a song. And lo and behold here it is:
And in case you’re wondering there is not an owl hooting in this remix.
This is a song originally from my band, Blind Men See (2003-2006). The original version can be listened to here, it’s a little more pop rocky and less dirty south, but you can see how different the remix is.

To The Sky 2003 Russ Hutto
I tend to find myself surrounded by dry land and nothing else
No water anywhere in sight and I can’t make it right
So I turn to the sky, lift my face to the sky
From the clouds comes a drip and I can feel it on my lips
I’m weary again (and I can feel it on the inside)
Only You can fill me up (so I’m turning to You once again)
I’m weary again (and I can feel it on the inside)
Only You can fill me up (so I’m turning to You once again)
I turn my face to the sky again
And let the rain of Your love
Fall down on me again
I lift my eyes to the sky again
And let the rain of Your love
Fall on me
I’m looking up at the night down on my knees in the night
Trying to get to the place When I can see Your face
This desert is dry So I look to the sky
To the place where You are ‘Cause I’ve wandered so far
Only You can fill me up (so I’m turning to You once again)
I’m weary again (and I can feel it on the inside)
Only You can fill me up (so I’m turning to You once again)
I turn my face to the sky again
And let the rain of Your love
Fall down on me again
I lift my eyes to the sky again
And let the rain of Your love
Fall on me
So I turn to the sky, lift my face to the sky
From the clouds comes a drip and I can fill it on my lips

you ARE a rock star, man! LOVE. IT! really. i really do. i dont normally listen to that style of music. not that i dont care for it – its just not normally on when im around. so i wouldnt have any critique, ya know? but i would listen to this a lot. i KNOW my kids are gonna dig it too.
nice job!
Honestly, one of the best compliments I get from people is “I don’t normally listen to rap or hip hop, but I love your stuff!”
Means, either I’m decent, or everyone is just really nice.
HAHA!
Well, lemme just tell ya that I’m not really nice…..not my nature at all, but I did your stuff
.
Way to slow it down Russ
Love the lyrics too.
And, having experimented with tempo changing stuff that’s already done, I think you got a sweetspot in that new tempo without it losing too much audio quality.
@Toby: Thanks man!
@David: Yeah, it just seems to flow pretty nice right there at 80 bpm.
definetely cooler in the remix version
It almost had a “southtown” feel between the vocals and the disonant guitar tones
@yod: Thanks! I like me some southtown!
Nice! I can visualize the music video… (written with my head bobbin in my office…)
@dennis: Haha, thanks man!
Hi!
I told ya I’d be here. Your comment today reminded me.
This was neat. Very interesting to hear two different versions of the same song. And I like both of them. I don’t which I like more, actually… hmm… They both play to strengths in their own styles. NICE!
thanks for sharing. Keep it up, Russ!!
Thanks, Mandy!
We had great success with the original. For some reason all the girls used to request it more than any of our other songs. I guess the pop-ishness of it (more so than the heavier rock of most of our other songs) pushed it to the top.
