Sunday Setlist [5.17.09]

Great day today. We did 2 services for House of Joy and then had a quick lunch and then did a Baccalaureate service for the seniors at Valdosta High School. Went over very well.

House of Joy

1) I Am Free (Egan): Key D. Great song.
2) With Long Life (Houghton): Key Cm. In the first service, I messed up the rap and said something like…”Now raise your hands and wave em up in the eye…” (supposed to be sky) and then I just laughed at my self and picked it back up at the “You are the source of all life and hope…” line. It was funny.
3) Your Name High (Houston): Key G. This was the noob song of the day. We rehearsed it Wednesday night for the first time and we all felt confident enough to rock it Sunday morning. It went over well. I just love the whoah-oh-oh parts. Something so catchy about them.

We had a guest speaker who brought a great message about sharing story.

Baccalaureate Service:

1) Your Name High (Houston): Key G. Went over well, probably better technically then at HOJ, but it didn’t seem to catch on with the seniors and audience at the high school.
2) With Long Life (Houghton): Key Cm. AMAZING. This was the right choice, and I’m glad I had slotted it second. We played the first tune and then there were some speakers and readings and then we came back to do With Long Life. Apparently our audience was very much more into Gospel than rock, so this one lit up the room and had everyone moving. Which is great because I was getting a little nervous after Your Name High fell flat. We executed it musically and vocally probably better than we ever have. Even the guest speakers were up on their feet moving around. It was definitely fun.

“With Long Life.” I would so love to do that. I’m wondering why you changed the key so dramatically, both from the Eb original, and between services.

Haha, I’m wondering why I did that too! I actually didn’t, that was a typo! I’ll correct that right now.

As far as the Eb thing goes.

Personally, I wouldn’t label this as in Eb. The song is in a minor key.

Majority of chorus chords being: Cm Dm7b5 G

The “home” note/chord is definitely Cm.

Which doesn’t make labeling it Eb incorrectly, because they are relative to each other, but when you think about it in the sense of what note/chord is “home” you’re definitely gonna land on Cm.

You’ve been listening to too much of Diane’s & my rapping Russ…

Glad YNH went well for you, at least in HOJ anyway

I’ve never played it, and didn’t even look at the chart. it’s listed in CCLI as Eb, so that’s where my comment came from. I saw the two different keys and looked up the original.

With those chords, I’d say Cm as well.

    Dm7b5. Gotta love Iz!
