Sunday Setlist [3.29.09]

Great day.

  1. Shackles (Mary, Mary): Key Em. One of our church favorites. Oldie but goodie.
  2. Your Love Never Fails (Hutto – me): Key G. A newer song. It didn’t go exactly as I hear it in my head, but I got some great feedback from church attenders so that’s good.
  3. Turn It Around (Houghton): Key D. One we haven’t done in a while, but a great song that had a great groove. Not one of my favorites to actually play and sing, but our church loves it, and it’s not about me, so I rock it to the best of my ability.

We’re looking forward to the next 2 weeks.

Part of Sunday Setlists.

    Russ,

Shackles is one of my fav songs. Do you record your service? I’d love to watch or listen to your band playing your setlist.

    Have Fun,

Turn it Around is actually one one my least-favorite New Breed tunes to play. To many chord changes! We can never seem to get it just right. Same as yours, though, the congregation loves it.

    Shackles… how cool.

Shackles is probably one of the most monotonous (chord wise) yet fun to play songs we do. The vocal parts (if you go 3 part) are smooth and the song is just great fun!

Definitely a good one to throw in the mix if you want a little soul in your set.

Turn it Around is pretty straight forward except for that “Ready for” pre-chorus. You’ve got to work out the timing ahead of time with your drummers so they nail it during rehearsal.

Some of the younger guys in our crew coming through are doing some great soul stuff (it just doesn’t work in my voice at all, and I have zero rhythm), so I hope they’ll do Shackles

‘Course, most of them were, like, 5yo when that song came out in 2000.

Always love your sets Russ – a refreshing change from the norm :)

Hey Russ do you have a recording of your original? I’d love to hear it.

I do, in fact I posted a scratch guitar track a few weeks back. Click on the Songwriting tab and look for Your Love Never Fails. It’s not the upbeat version that we use for church, but it’ll give you an idea of how it goes.
