50 Songs: [More Than A Mile]
So here it is. It’s been a rough few weeks on this 50 Songs this year challenge. but I cranked one out this morning in GarageBand, and decided to pull out the old trumpet. Haven’t played it in a few years. Forgive the airy tone, but that’s what happens when your chops turn to mud over the years.

Technically, I'm playing a cornet, not a trumpet.
This one is called More Than A Mile. I was inspired by the #twiblestudy this morning on twitter based on Hebrews 4:15 (thanks @loswhit) and this is what kind of popped out. Jesus walked more than a mile in our shoes. He can more than just relate to us from afar. He WAS us.
There are no lyrics to this song, it’s just a meditative improv instrumental. Just know when you listen to it, though, that Jesus is close, He is near, and in every way possible he knows what you’re going through day to day because He, too was tempted with every imaginable temptation, and in the end did not sin. Amazing.
So here it is: More Than A Mile

Brings me back to my trumpet playing days!
And yes, He is near! This post, this song, #twiblestudy, my post today, a few of the comments there……I have felt like He is staring me in the face all day.
i had chills before i even listened to your song. the last paragraph of your post just really spoke to me.
the song…i can totally see Jesus walking the windy desert floor. just roaming…but not aimlessly. looking for me….
i love this. you nailed sumpin here russ!
I spent most of the day offline, definitely aiming to be closer to Jesus.
I love it. Your cornet playing blends all the elements so well. Like soul in a soulless world (not that the other elements are soulless, but I reckon you’ll know what I mean)
Wow.
Oh, it worked too btw – had a great, focussed day with Jesus
OH MY GOSH.
the tone is fantastic.
FANTASTIC
And that cornet. It is one of my favorite sounds. dang.
You totally rocked this. Pensive. Meditative. Lonely. But there’s hope in it.
Thanks, Mandy!
And of course, thanks all who left comments. I’m testing out threaded comments…and they didn’t work. Ha.
dang…that’s cool.
you’re a pretty good trumpet (er…coronet) player.
Thanks yod
I thought that it was an awesome song. I think I want to try making songs up too!
But I gotta learn keys and such.
I love it. You need to submit some stuff to a record company and see what happens… On the other hand, I think the internet is winning that battle. I praise God for your talent and your heart for Him. May God bless you and yours greatly!
