Sunday Setlist [2.22.09]

1) Say So (Houghton): Key E. This is always a fun one. Pretty standard arrangement.

2) Your Love Never Fails (Russ Hutto Original): Key G. This song went over well. I “debuted” it last week as part of my 50 Songs Challenge. Got a lot of good feedback on it from my blog and facebook networks so I decided to drop it in a Sunday Setlist. Went over very well.

3) Your Love is Beautiful (Hillsong): Key Cm. Pretty standard arrangement.

Good week this week. Tough series dealing with porn, sexual sin, racism. Going good though.

Part of Fred McKinnon’s Sunday Setlists where worship leaders and worshipers get crunk.

First let me say I misread that last line as “where worship leaders and worshipers get DRUNK” LOL!

Secondly, when you debuted your own song did you preface it will the congregation as “I wrote this”? I’m considering using a song of mine but I’m not sure how to approach the subject, you know?

    Russ,
Congrats on the new song – are Kellys’ sermons online? Something we all need to hear, over and over!

    hehe.

No, I usually preface new music, with hey this is a new song let’s have fun learning it…or everybody get up and stretch we’re about to rock the house…or whatever…

Usually, I don’t draw attention to the author, even if it’s mine.

What we’ve been doing lately is adding a slide in the lyrics presentation right before we start singing the song that is laid out similar to the beginning of a music video. You, know in the left hand bottom corner.

    Title
    Author

Then at the end we have another Title slide that has ALL the info there. Title, Author, Publishing, Date, CCLI, etc.

If people pay attention they’ll see that it is my song. I had a few people come up and compliment me on it, so some people do see it for sure.

I’m glad to read how you intro a song you wrote. For me, the story is usually huge in my own life so it’s hard for me to think of it outside of that context. For that reason i hesitate in using my own stuff…..still trying to work on that.

Thanks Jan. I know there was a time when I was younger when I’d always introduce a song of mine as a song of mine…but honestly it’s not a big deal anymore.

    Thanks for the comment!

Russ, that music video slide sounds like a really good idea. Mind if I steal it?

I really don’t want it to be a big deal (if I wrote a song or not) and I never talk about the authors anyway, so not mentioning it seems like a good idea. Like Jan, the songs I write in worship to God come out of this personal place in my life- it’s hard to be vulnerable like that, even if people don’t know I’m the author.

Love to see original stuff. Thanks for sharing. I’m glad to see that Fred posted my list. For some reason, I can’t view the Mr. Linky box on the Sunday setlists on any of my computers (at work and at home). That has made participation difficult. What I’ve missed the most is seeing what others are doing.

We don’t even intro our songs specifically, the whole set just flows from song to song so there’s not really an opportunity to even if we wanted to. Any speaking is exhortation & direction.

Our projection doesn’t even have authors either. Most people tend to tentatively ask afterwards, since our congregation seem to know all the latest worship music before it’s out (?!), and hence if it’s ours…they’re on to it straight away :)

So glad this song went well Russ – I still start by singing the Jesus Culture song when I see the title. Ha!

Cool to see original stuff being used! I haven’t heard “Your love is beautiful” I’m going to check that one out.

It’s awesome using original material. With your songwriting challenge, you should have plenty of new tunes this year for your congregation!

Not to be a stickler, but the CCLI license requires that you put copyright info on at least one slide for every song. So hopefully everyone is doing what you guys do. Our program automatically puts this info in a small line on the bottom of the projection.

russ – love the slide idea, kudos on the new song, and I’m a big fan of “Say So”. Our team started out doing the Israel version, but then I heard the slammin’ Michael Gungor band version, and the riff in that song is cool, that we switched it.

Looks like a great set – thanks for sharing it!

Fred: Our sermons are online at HouseOfJoy.info.

New song went over well! Hope to have some vid or audio soon.

Mike, Daniel, Lorri, Steff, Windbag, David: As always thanks for stopping by! I find it such an amazingly beautiful thing when we share our setlists and see the unique and individual yet UNITED expressions of worship of OUR GOD!
