My “Grandmama” Rocks

Back in the late 50s my “Grandmama” Sylvia Hogan recorded this sweet rockabilly track with the help of my “Pawpaw” – he’s the male voice you hear on the track. They founded Vena Records back in the day in Madison, Alabama. My “Pawpaw” went on to be with Jesus back in 94, but my “Grandmama” lives in Northern Alabama.

I learned a lot about my musical heritage in the weeks and months after my “Pawpaw” died. I hadn’t known how great a writer and musician my Pawpaw was. My Grandmama is a great singer and my mom has several old cassettes of the whole family singing.

I owe a lot of who I am today to these 2 great Rockabilly/Bluegrass/Country musicians.

@tam: I’m pretty sure she is, but I can’t confirm that. Sounds like she’s doubling up on the harmony, but that would’ve been late 50s, not even sure if they were multi-trackin back then?
