Collide Magazine (Review)
So, I received my first issue of Collide Magazine (Nov/Dec 07 issue).
First off, this issue is great! I give it 2 thumbs up.
As a whole, I believe I’m going to really benefit from the subscription. The writing is fresh and Collide really tackles the creative and philosophical side of media in ministry in an informative manner. I have subscriptions to Worship Leader and Church Production that are extremely interesting each issue from a technological standpoint, but Collide seems to fill in the gaps from the “right-brained” creative side.
From this issue, my favorite articles are:
Murdering Rembrandt: How to Kill Artists in Your Local Church by Gary Molander. This article takes a look at how to encourage and develop artists (contrary to the sarcastic title).
Visual Worship by Camron Ware, which is a nice 2-page article about using fonts, colors, and projectors to create visual environments.
Sermon Graphics in Ten Minutes by John Falke which is a great resource for small churches or designers looking to modernize their sermon series graphic presentation slides and print media that goes along with it.
Overall, I definitely recommend a subscription if you haven’t already. It’s an easy to read, yet informative and inspirational read. The design is fresh and clean. The ads are relevant. Good stuff.
