Finding Jesus At Summer Camp
In just a few minutes I’ll be heading out to a weekend camp as a volunteer camp “coach”. I was kind of thinking about what to look forward to in this experience, and although I’m sure we’ll have a good time with this age group (3rd-7th grades), I was kind of dreading it. Don’t get me wrong, I love working with students, I am technically a “student pastor” of sorts, but the younger they are the harder I find to “connect” on any significant level. So, I’ve been kind of trying to open myself up to a working out of some sort of lesson in patience or mentorship.
Anyways, while thinking about it, I began to think about the passage in scripture where Jesus spends time just hanging out with children. He says that the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to “those such as these” (the children). I don’t know if I’m gonna learn some life changing lesson this weekend or not, but I do know this: If the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those like children, I probably need to spend time just hanging out with and pouring into the lives of children so that I can see what they’re like. Haha. I’ve always heard people say that you retain your youth when you spend time with those that are young. Could it be true?

I’m so glad you didn’t die in the van! I seriously thought about it after a few days passed.
How’s was your trip? I’d love to hear if you found him! He likes to play hide and seek…
